From the get go I feel as if I'm about to embark on an exciting journey and as I begin to explore the site, I feel that any expectation I have is going to be exceeded.

DeltaOfVenus is very well organized. There is a welcome message on the members' area, there are site news, an explanation about navigation and a list of all the most recent updates. There is something new added every week, but if you link to any of the menu items then a whole world of retro porn opens up to you.

There are 113 films that come from all over the world and that were made between the early 20th century and the late 1960s. There are 12 categories of vintage photos. Each category is filled with a collection of individual photos and in total there are currently 2488 pictures to date. The photos appear to be similar in size throughout each gallery. The 650x560 pictures aren't very big, but they are generally very clear. Photos from around the 1900s are a bit grainy, but this is to be expected. Photos that are from around 1970 are slightly larger, but 745x590 pixels was the largest I came across.

There are films from the USA and films from Europe. The video length varies between six and 12 minutes, but all are 1080kbps 480x360 QuickTime formats that you can download. The actual .mp4 resolution is good, but in this case the final quality depends on the original film footage. Some flicks are a bit scratchy, but this ends up being a part of the true charm of authentic vintage porn. Every film comes with a title, country of origin, release date and a plot summary. Movies are categorized into burlesque and nudie flicks, mid-century films and early silent films, but there isn't a feature to narrow the movies down to specific sex acts, for example. Also, while plot summaries may state some of the names of the stars, there isn't any actual way to look for specific content from old time stars.

Aside from the need for more search features, the site is a wonderful ride into the past. Aside from movies and photos there are numerous articles about the history of porn and pinup icons. There are also full-length novels in PDF form, fiction excerpts and poetry and erotic art and illustrations from throughout the 20th century. Audio recordings, suggested reading and the origin of certain sexual terms are also listed as extras.

Final Verdict

Delta Of Venus may not be the largest archive of retro porn, but it's obvious to me that the enthusiasts who've put the site together are true fans of vintage porn. Here is a wide range of content categories, some that will titillate and tease and others that are explicit enough to get anyone off. I'd probably like to see more search features, but I loved some of the extra stories and articles and for the bargain price, I can't see how any vintage fan would want to pass up the Delta Of Venus membership.
